The Quail Call has been the Lake San Marcos Community Newsletter since 1965. It was originally published and distributed by Citizen's Development Corp as a way of keeping the community informed and as a marketing piece for the developer to sell new homes that were built. The look and size has changed over the years. The first issues were lengthy with many photos and community events. Some of the marketing pieces were in full color on glossy paper with many color photos. You can find examples of the early issues in the Early History of Lake San Marcos, published by the Lake San Marcos Community Association in July 2007.
In 2005, publishing of the Quail Call was taken over by the Lake San Marcos Community Association. A group of 20 - 25 volunteers gathered each month to assemble and fold the newsletter. This tradition continued until September of 2007 when the mailing services were contracted by Alphagraphics of San Marcos.
