The President’s Corner:

Another year has passed.  We have accomplished many things but still have much to do.

First of all we have a new Board of Directors for the Lake San Marcos Community Association.  Officers were elected at the December meeting.   The new Board is:

President-          Jacque Baker              Directors-        Rich LaFarge

Vice President-John Andrew                                       Edgar Engert

Secretary-        Carol Alexander                                  Eli Whitney

Treasurer-        Jack Bloes                                           Ken Beall

                                                                                    Jim Brennan

The new Board of Directors met in January to discuss upcoming projects and committee work for 2008.  Several ongoing projects include continuing to work with CDC on mutual interest issues, Architectural Control Committee project reviews, publishing the Quail Call, The "Cove" Retail Center and Condominium project and other proposed building in and around Lake San Marcos, maintaining the lighted "Cross" on the hill, working with the Homeowner Associations Presidents steering committee, the History of Lake San Marcos Book, Lake Water Quality issues, Traffic and Street concerns, and keeping up to date on San Diego County and the City of San Marcos projects that affect us.  It should be a busy year!

Two years ago, LSMCA negotiated with our Insurance Carrier to include LSMCA Clubs and Organizations under our General Liability Policy as Associate Members.  This action will save the Clubs and Organizations many hundreds of dollars annually by not having to obtain separate Liability Policies.  Liability insurance is required by CDC in order to serve alcoholic beverages at Club functions taking place at the Pavilion. All Clubs and Organizations in Lake San Marcos are encouraged to contact the Community Association office and apply to become Associate Members if they would like to be covered under our General Liability Policy.

San Diego County has approved a budget for street repairs and resurfacing for some of the worse streets in Lake San Marcos in 2008. Most of the streets on their repair list are on the east side of the Lake around the Golf Course.

Lake San Marcos Security Patrol has started the "Rent a Cop" program which involves Police Officers patrolling the streets of Lake San Marcos for 4 hours a week.  During the last 4 weeks over 12 traffic citations have been issued and 10 warnings given.  The program will continue through March.  Lake San Marcos Security is accepting donations for this program aimed at stopping some of the speeders and cut through traffic.

Our membership renewal for 2008 is underway.  You should have received your annual membership and dues renewal in the mail.  Membership is open to residents of Lake San Marcos.  If you haven’t already, please complete the information form and send it back in with your dues of $36. If you did not receive a notice in the mail, please call our office at 760-744-4306 to charge it or receive an application.  If you have already sent your dues, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!   Your support is vital for the continued work needed to keep Lake San Marcos the special place that it is.
