President’s Message by Jacque Baker
A fun filled day and wonderful time was had by all who attended the 2008 Fourth of July Festivities sponsored by the Lake San Marcos Kiwanis Club. The celebrations were kicked off by a FLAG Raising Ceremony at 10 am followed by a Musical Salute to the USA led by John Stalls and the Lake San Marcos Lakers. Below area Veterans were honored with a very moving Armed Services Medley of the various branches of Service.

There was fun for all ages, plenty of Food and Ice Cream, Booths of LSM Organizations, an Art Show, Sack Races and Watermelon Eating contest for children, followed at 5 pm by a Yacht Club Boat Parade of over 30 decorated pontoon boats, a peddle boat, and even a canoe! Fourth of July’s Past! Independence Day has always been a day for celebrating in Lake San Marcos. Early Quail Call articles show festivities since 1966 when Charles Hahn first organized the activities which started at 4 pm with a picnic supper at the Recreation Center. Following the picnic was a Donkey Race (yes- 3 Donkeys were raced!), a Watermelon Eating contest, a Tug O’ War across the Lake from Shore to Shore, Sack Races, Broom Races, Baseball Games, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Golf Ball hitting contest, Booths sponsored by the various clubs, Strolling Musicians, Beer and Cider Bar, free peanuts and pretzels, a colorful Lighted Boat Parade by the Yacht Club, followed at 8 pm by a huge Bonfire and Community Sing-a-long led by the Night Blooming Jazzmen. For more information on LSM early history, we have "Early History of Lake San Marcos" books for sale at the Community Association office.
