President’s Message by John Andrew  January, 2009

                Happy New Year Lake San Marcos!  This wish is to all of you from your 2009 Board.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Board of Directors for the Lake San Marcos Community Association.

First up is Jack Bloes.  He has been on the Board for a year plus as Treasurer.  This year Jack will be on the Architectural Control Committee and the Membership Committee.  He will also handle special projects.

Next is Judy Widener.  Judy was elected Treasurer for the coming year and in addition to those duties she will be on the Architectural Control Committee and head up the Nominating Committee next fall.  Also, Judy will be organizing Association activities at the Kiwanis 4^th of July party. This is Judy’s first year on the Board and the other Board members welcome her.

Rich La Farge will again chair the Architectural Control Committee.  He has been involved in this area for many years.  His outstanding efforts are much appreciated.  In addition, he will be on the Homeowners Association Liaison Committee.

Jim Brennan will continue to serve on the Road and Street Repairs Committee.  This will be Jim’s third year on the Board.  Additionally Jim will serve on the Homeowners Association Liaison Committee and the Security Liaison and Traffic Committee.  Jim is one of three board members designated to interface with Citizens Development Corporation on behalf of the Association.  As President of the Colony Homeowners Association Jim will be a very busy man.

Edgar Engert was elected this year to another two year term.  Edgar will be on the Road and Street Repairs Committee, act as liaison with EDCO, and continue to oversee necessary activities with the Cross to assure that it remains a beacon at the Lake.

Ken Beall has been Assistant Editor of the Quail Call for the past several months. He will continue in that capacity as well as participating on the Security Liaison and Traffic Committee.  Ken is starting his third year on the Board.

Carol Alexander is beginning her second year as a board member and will continue to serve as Secretary.  In addition, Carol will serve on the Architectural Control Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Security Liaison and Traffic Committee.  The Club Fair activities at the pavilion are being chaired by Carol and this year’s event will be Saturday, January 17, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the pavilion.  Come and find out about all the wonderful activities and clubs there are at the Lake.  Carol will also help organize Association activities at the Kiwanis 4^th of July party.

Vice President this year is Eli Whitney.  Eli is starting his fourth year on the Association Board and will continue his excellent efforts on the Architectural Control Committee, groundwater and Lake issues, act as Sportsman’s Club Liaison, supervise activities related to lease renewal, and assist with the 4^th of July Kiwanis party.  Through Eli’s great efforts he was able to get the County to install proper drainage along the upper part of San Pablo Drive which has eliminated street water runoff.

I am beginning my fourth year on the Association Board.  I plan to continue serving on the Architectural Control Committee, as secretary.  I will continue on the Security Liaison and Traffic, Citizens Development Corporation Liaison, Bookkeeping and Records, and Lease Activities Committees.

In addition to the nine Board members, Bob Kreis will continue as Editor of the Quail Call and he will be an advisor to the Board, giving us advice from his many years of service to the Community at the Lake.  Jacque Baker, immediate past President, will continue as an advisor to the Board and will follow actions with Lago de San Marcos project and lease activity.  Pat Eastman will continue her excellent efforts related to the Quail Call as well as acting as office manager.  She will be ably assisted in the office by Nancy Sand and Dottie Bogumil.

I have been coming to Lake San Marcos since November 1978, long before much of the housing was built.  Over these years and in my many travels throughout the world, I have not found a place to live as wonderfully unique and beautiful.  A little over five years ago we moved here.  It has taken the efforts of all the residents of the Lake to keep this unique living experience as spectacular as it is today.  It has also taken the efforts of Citizens Development Corporation to keep the many common areas clean, neat, and aesthetically pleasing both under Frazar and the current management.  With all our differences, we must remember that without CDC the executive and country club golf courses will go to seed along with the entry mall and other common grassy areas.  Without CDC there will be no one to take care of the Lake San Marcos common areas.  It is to our mutual benefit for them to stay in business.

In closing, I would like to share some thoughts from Virginia and Oscar Zoebisch, long time residents of the Lake.  "…May all of us forget the snubs, hurts, losses and downturns of 2008 and look forward with hope, gladness, robust health and renewed enthusiasm for 2009 and beyond."  As President, that is my wish for all of you.
